Exam Readiness Strategies for FNMI Students
Provide in class review before exams.
Develop study guides with students.
Provide example questions and practice exams.
Give students a minimum of 3 days to prepare for studying and test preparation.
Provide 20 to 30 minutes of "study time" in class leading up to an exam.
Multiple choice tests should only be a component of assessment, not the only means for
testing.
Where possible, try not to limit the time available for test writing.

Good Assessment Strategies
Teachers must offer multiple forms of assessment to his/her students while always including self assessment as one of them.
By creating opportunities for First Nations students to showcase their knowledge through dancing,
PowerPoint, oral story telling, or poetry; one can incorporate their culture into their assignments. This can make students more comfortable showing the teacher what they know.
Another good habit is allowing students to be an integral part of the assessment making process. This way they have a say in
being graded on the performances they know they are good at.
